Scioto Health Plan and CareHere LLC together hosted a ribbon-cutting on Aug. 1, 2017, to open the Scioto Advantage health and wellness center in New Boston.
The new facility will provide area school employees, and their dependents covered by Scioto Health Plan, access to a new, no-cost primary and preventive health care facility.
Services will include chronic disease management, health coaching services, care for infections and colds, flu and allergy treatment, well-woman exams, well-child checkup, routine bloodwork, annual health screenings, wound care, minor stitches, bus driver physicals, school and sports physicals, skin checks, immunizations, birth control, wellness programs, generic prescription dispensary, and more.
“Scioto Health Plan is our self-funded insurance consortium,” said South Central Ohio Educational Service Center Superintendent Sandy Mers. “It means we control our decisions. It means we do our best to take care of our employees and their families.”

South Central Ohio Educational Service Center Superintendent Sandy Mers opened the ribbon-cutting ceremony, thanking the area schools, the village of New Boston, and the ESC governing board. Also speaking was former Clay School Superintendent and Scioto Health Plan Director Tony Mantell, Dr. Anthony Dallas of CareHere, and New Boston Village Administrator Steve Hamilton welcomed the facility and thanked them for being part of the village.
“What we have here is something so very special, that you don’t see in very many places,” Mantell said. “When think about all of our people – great employees who work for the school districts – the fact that they can come here at no out-of-pocket expense to them – what a great benefit.”
