The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center is participating in the 2019 Scioto Gives fundraising event, to benefit an endowment fund for its gifted services program.
Scioto Gives is hosted each year by The Scioto Foundation, offering a one-day challenge for area non-profits to collect donations, with up to $45,000 in matching donations. The event assists local non-profit organizations with an annual endowment fund drive, and encourages other non-profit organizations to establish their own endowment fund. It also helps smaller grass-roots organizations accept online donations, and encourages donor gifting because of the matching dollars available.
The South Central Ohio ESC Gifted Services Program has participated in Scioto Gives since 2014, increasing its collected contributions each year.
The mission of the ESC Gifted Service Department is to provide students in our local school districts the opportunity to take part in academically and artistically challenging programs, which the schools may not be able to offer individually. Even though the department is labeled “Gifted Services," its programs outreach to students throughout the Scioto County area; even those who are not necessarily identified as “gifted." Programs include the academic competition and quiz bowl, mock trial, honors music festival, Scioto County Science Day, and more.
“We are grateful to the Scioto Foundation for providing this amazing opportunity to build our endowment fund, which we hope will one day support our gifted programs. Scioto Gives continues to offer the non-profits of Scioto County a way to grow through the generosity of this community and I'm very appreciative of the Scioto Foundation's efforts,” ESC Gifted Services Coordinator Sharee Price said.
This year’s Scioto Gives event will be Oct. 17, and qualifying donations must be made on that day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to be counted toward the agency’s goal. Donations can be made on Oct. 17 by credit card online (www.sciotogives.org) or by check in the office – located at 303 Chillicothe Street, in Portsmouth.
