Students create Winterfest banners
Published on December 18, 2019
bannersStudents in Mrs. Kelly Montgomery’s advanced art classes at Valley High School are pictured with the banners they created for downtown Portsmouth through an Artist-in-Residency with artist, Klaire Smith, and in a collaboration with the Friends of Portsmouth group. The banners are displayed on Chillicothe Street with each snowflake design being unique to each banner. On Friday, December 13, the students traveled to Portsmouth for a field trip where they visited the Second Presbyterian Church (to learn about the history and architecture of the church), the Human Rights Garden (to learn about another student-driven community art project), and the floodwall murals (to learn about the artistic processes that were used to create the murals). They then went to see their banners on display.

The project was coordinated by Sharee Price of the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center and was sponsored by the Scioto Foundation, Portsmouth Rotary Club, and SOMC.
