The Resident Educator Program supports new teachers by providing veteran teachers to serve as mentors and by providing professional development courses focused on topics that are of significant importance to successful instruction: classroom management, lesson development, lesson delivery, assessment practices, communication with parents, and classroom environment.
New teachers participate in the RE Program for 4 years, which allows time to practice the skills learned in college and apply them to the real world, while receiving guidance and feedback from an experienced teacher. In Year 3 of the program, all teachers must complete and pass the Resident Educator Summative Assessment, a process that requires the submission of evidence of effective instructional practices that are evaluated by a team of trained assessors. Once the RESA is passed, new teachers engage in a series of leadership activities that are designed to encourage further growth as experienced educators.
The South Central Ohio Educational Service Center Resident Educator Program has been successfully supporting new teachers as they move from novice educators to proficient professionals for over twenty years.
