Student health fair hosted at ESC

Student health fair hosted at ESCStudents of the Center for Alternative and Progressive Education toured booths during a health fair at the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center, in New Boston, on April 6. The health fair was collaboration between the ESC, Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, and the Centers for Disease Control’s “Teens Linked to Care” program.

“Shawnee State University’s Community Health Class is part of the nursing program, and they came in and presented to the students,” said Andrea Cline, college and career transition advisor from the South Central Ohio ESC.

Information booths were setup in the gymnasium of the ESC, and SSU students at each both shared topics such as smoking, healthy relationships, and stress management. Students also enjoyed the photo booth, and taking silly photos with their friends.

“I think the students learned how to have healthier lifestyles,” Cline said.

The program also exposed students of the CAPE School to the nursing program at Shawnee State University.

“Some of the students were super excited. They wanted to talk to the nursing students and see what it was like in college program. The college students shared a little bit about what they know, and I think it helped the students realize that nursing deals with overall health, too,” Cline said.
