Portsmouth High School’s Academic Competition team, led by Coach Julie Horn, captured the title of 2019-20 Academic Competition League Champions, with an undefeated season. The Clay High School team, led by Coach Cindy Parkes, won the Runner-Up title.
League competitions took place from September through December at the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ESC), in New Boston.
“Our team returned very strong since we only graduated one senior last year,” Horn said. “The kids have worked very hard attending after school practices. I'm extremely proud of our team and what they have accomplished over the past two years. We are working hard in preparation for the upcoming tournament in March and I'm confident that they will represent Portsmouth High School well as they compete at the next level.”
Each year the ESC oversees Academic Competitions, using the Ohio Academic Competition format. The purpose of this competition is to encourage higher-order thinking, recognize outstanding achievement, and promote academic excellence among participating high school students.
